Famous Orozco Murals

Inside the Palacio de Gobierno (Governor's Palace), a large staircase has
a huge mural on three walls and the ceiling.
(Each of the sections above is about a story tall.)
It depicts the struggle between oppressive forces (e.g. Nazis, communists, etc.)
and the common people.  The artist is José Clemente Orozco.
The main figure above is Miguel Hidalgo, father of Mexican independence.

This is the most powerful piece of art I have ever seen.  I was just floored the first time I saw it.
Imagine that you are going into a normal (for Guadalajara) government building,
turn a corner to go up the stairs, and bam, there it is.

Of course, seeing this image on a web site is no match for seeing it in person.
(The image above is a stitched-together version of multiple pictures.)

Another mural by Orozco in the Palacio de Gobierno,
located where the Congress convenes.
